Service Description

This 2 day workshop is an introduction to the traditional intaglio processes of drypoint and etching and is suitable for complete beginners or those who wish to be fully inducted to use our etching facilities during open access. Our experienced tutor, Laura, will show you a variety of examples and will demonstrate both processes from start to finish. You will be fully inducted to use the tools and equipment available at our studio and materials will be provided including 1XA6 easy scratch drypoint plate, 1XA6 copper plate, paper and ink. Intaglio processes involve line drawing with fine tools so you may want to bring some sketches or images to use for reference. Drypoint is a 'direct' intaglio process which involves engraving directly into the surface of a plastic or metal plate. Etching is 'indirect' and involves coating a metal plate, in this case copper, with a resist which is drawn through. The plate is then chemically etched in ferric chloride before printing. Once you have completed this course you can apply to become a member of Norwich Printmaking Hub and can book onto our open access sessions. If you have any questions, check out our FAQ page or contact us via norwichprintmakers@gmail.com or via the Contact Us page! Please read our cancellation policy (below) before booking.
