Service Description
This 1 day workshop is an introduction to traditional soft ground etching and is suitable for beginners or those who have previously done hard ground etching who wish to take things further. Etching involves coating a metal plate, in this case copper, with a resist or 'ground' which is drawn through using various tools. The plate is then chemically etched in ferric chloride before being inked and printed by hand using an etching press. Soft ground etching in particular is an opportunity to explore softer drawn lines and texture and you can either build on a plate you have already worked on with hard ground etching or can create a new design exploring different techniques! You will be shown a variety of examples and given demonstrations for the use of different tools to explore line, mark-making and texture to build tone. You might want to bring drawings or images to work from or even textures to work with such as fabrics or foliage. Otherwise materials will be provided. You will be fully inducted to use the tools and equipment available at our studio and materials will be provided including 1XA6 copper plate, paper and ink. Once you have completed this course you can apply to become a member of Norwich Printmaking Hub and can book onto our open access sessions. Cancellation Policy
This course/session requires a minimum of 3 participants in order to be viable to run. If we receive fewer than 3 bookings we may cancel the course/session or reschedule to start at a later date. In this event we will notify you via email to see if you are able to reschedule or to issue you with a refund. If you wish to cancel your booking please contact us at norwichprintmakers@gmail.com ASAP. We regret that refunds cannot be given for cancellations received less than 7 days before the start date of the course/booking. We cannot issue refunds if a participant does not turn up on the day. If we need to cancel a course for whatever reason we will notify all participants ASAP and issue refunds via your original payment method. All bookings include a 5% online booking fee which is non-refundable, this covers transaction costs which we have to pay out as a non profit company. All participants must be over 18. Please do not book if you or the person you are booking for is under 18 years of age. By booking, you agree for us to share your email address with the course tutor so they can contact you with information as needed before the course. Your details will not be passed on by us to any 3rd parties. By booking you confirm you have read and agreed to these terms.
